LiputanIslam.com— Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan decided to reimpose the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) policy in Jakarta on Monday, September 14, 2020.
The policy of the PSBB needs to be carried out because the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic in the capital has been worrying. This decision is based on three points of consideration, namely the increasing death rate, the availability of isolation beds, and ICU rooms to treat COVID-19 patients.
“So from 3 data: the death rate, the use of isolation beds and ICU rooms for COVID-19 patients, it shows that the outbreak situation in Jakarta is in an emergency condition,” Anies Said on Wednesday (9/9).
However, Anies’ policy received protests from a number of Jokowi’s ministers. They are worried that the impact of the PSBB will make the economy which is currently on an improving trend fall.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang said that the trend of industrial performance in the last few months has been relatively improving. If the PSBB is reinstated, the performance of the national industry will definitely be affected.
“DKI will reimpose a strict PSBB. Of course, this will more or less affect the performance of the manufacturing industry in Indonesia, especially if other provinces are also following this strict PSBB. We are looking at this improving industry performance. We are afraid that it will be under pressure,” he remarked on Thursday (10/9).
Minister of Trade Agus Suparmanto stated that the Implementation of PSBB would disrupt distribution channels. In fact, distribution channels must be smooth so that the economy can run.
“Because our GDP is 50 percent of consumption. If this distribution is not smooth, it will disrupt the Indonesian GDP,” he stated.
In addition, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed that the announcement of PSBB volume II had created uncertainty on the stock market, especially the Indonesian Composite Index (IHSG).
“We gotta take a look at this gas and brakes. If we brake suddenly, we have to maintain pubic trust because not all economic factors are fundamental, but there are sentiments,” he said. (sh/tirto/tempo)
