LiputanIslam.com— The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that Indonesia’s economic growth in the second quarter of 2020 was minus 5.32 percent. This growth rate is annually the lowest since 1999.
The realization of the economic growth rate in the second quarter of 2020 was far above the estimate of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Based on his forecast, economic growth in the second quarter of 2020 was -4.3 percent.
“From the calculation I received this morning, we can probably reach -4.3 percent,” he said.

Jokowi revealed that the tourism and aviation sectors were the deepest contracting sectors. This can be seen from the decline in foreign tourists who came to Indonesia during the second quarter of 2020.
“Yesterday, BPS released our economic growth in the second quarter which fell to -5.32 percent and I saw the sectors that were affected, contracted very deeply, were the tourism sector and the aviation sector,” he remarked.
Based on BPS data, foreign tourists who visited Indonesia in this period only reached 482 thousand people, or down 81 percent compared to the previous quarter and down 87 percent compared to the previous year.
President Jokowi said this condition should be a momentum to improve and transform the tourism and aviation sector.
